31 марта 2017 года в Духовно – просветительском центре состоялось торжественное мероприятие, посвященное празднованию 25-летней годовщины образования Отдела специального назначения Управления федеральной службы исполнения наказания России по Камчатскому краю «Беркут»
К собравшимся с приветственным словом обратились
— Начальник Управления федеральной службы исполнения наказания России по Камчатскому краю полковнику внутренней службы Коновалов Дмитрий Николаевич.
— Заместитель Председателя Правительства Камчатского края Сергей Иванович Хабаров.
— Настоятель Кафедрального собора в честь святой Живоначальной Троицы протоиерей Алексей Апатов
— Председатель комитета по вопросам государственного строительства, местного самоуправления и гармонизации межнациональных отношений Андрей Сергеевич Лиманов.
— председатель Камчатского регионального отделения всероссийской общественной организации ветеранов «Боевого братства» майору вооруженных сил в отставке Чукалин Сергей Вениаминович
— атаман Отдельного Камчатского казачьего округа Уссурийского казачьего войска казачьему полковнику Бянкин Николай Васильевич
Есть такой отдел, где его сотрудники рискуют своей жизней каждый день, во имя долга, соблюдения законности и правопорядка. История создания отдела неразрывно связана с историй нашей страны. Россию в 90-хгодах захлестнула волна националистических движений, общая криминализация общества, участились случаи массовых беспорядков, захват заложников из числа персонала в учреждениях уголовно-исполнительной системы. Руководством страны было принято решение о создании специальных подразделений. Основу отрядов специального назначения составило три десятка спецназовцев. Это боевое ядро способно действовать в любых ситуациях и условиях, решать любые поставленные задачи, вести боевые действия с противником. Менялось и меняется многое, но остается главное: наш долг – защищать права человека и служить народу!
Отдел специального назначения «Беркут» — это прежде всего люди, от профессионализма которых, зависит защита прав и законных интересов наших граждан. Каждый час, каждую минуту вы готовы прийти на помощь в трудной ситуации. Отдельной признательности заслуживают ветераны за неоценимую помощь в работе по героико-патриотическому воспитанию сотрудников и профессиональному становлению молодого поколения. Люди, которые большую часть своей жизни посвятили служению своему народу, с честью исполнив свой долг. Свой высокий профессионализм и отвагу вы не раз демонстрировали, находясь в «горячих точках», не щадя своей жизни наши офицеры подтвердили высокое звание «Беркут» спецназ! В этот знаменательный день с большой благодарностью вспомнили тех людей, которые стояли у истоков создания отдела.
1992 г. Возглавил новое подразделение — заместитель начальника Управления по оперативной и режимной работе подполковник внутренней службы Яковлев Сергей Николаевич. С 1992 по 1995 год коллективом руководил подполковник внутренней службы Воробьев Андрей Евгеньевич. С 1995 года по 2013 отделом специального назначения «Беркут» руководил подполковник внутренней службы Подрезов Сергей Иванович. 
С 2013 года отдел специального назначения «Беркут» возглавляет подполковник внутренней службы Никитин Андрей Викторович. Под его руководством проведено 273 специальных мероприятий, в ходе которых задержано 22 осужденных уклонявшихся от наказания в местах лишения свободы. Андрей Викторович — грамотный, опытный и требовательный командир, который, пользуется непререкаемым авторитетом и любовью всего коллектива.
Сотрудники подразделения в рамках воспитания в духе патриотизма за будущее России с большим желанием делятся своим военным мастерством, с подрастающим поколением. 
Регулярно проводятся обучающие занятия с учениками школ Камчатского, по приемам самозащиты без оружия. Для младших школьных классов на базе отдела проводят экскурсии с демонстрацией боевого огнестрельного, и холодного оружия. Совместно с Петропавловской и Камчатской епархией и с Православным Детско-юношеским военно-патриотическим клубом «Русские витязи» организован летний военно-патриотический лагерь «Пересвет».
